Giro D'Gareth!!

09 May 2014

Giro D'Gareth

Harry Corry is proud to support Downtown Radio/ Cool FM Cash For Kids “Mission Christmas”, all of our shops in Northern Ireland had been collecting toys for children who would otherwise go without on Christmas Day.

We wanted to go a step further and try and raise as much money as possible for Cash for Kids

The idea was to Lap the Land covering 300 miles in 3 days around our curtain and bedding shops in Northern Ireland.

Day 1 saw us leave Belfast and head north to our Harry Corry shops in Ballymena and Coleraine then head West to our Harry Corry shop in Derry/ Londonderry. It was a tough day with a lot of steep climbs between Coleraine and Derry/ Londonderry.

Day 2 started at our curtain and bedding store on Strand Road in Derry/Londonderry, we headed south to our shops in Strabane and Omagh then headed East to our shops in Cookstown and Craigavon. The wind picked up and gave us a horrible head wind for the first 40 miles, it was tough going.

Tired legs started Day 3 at Harry Corry's in Craigavon with a route South in to the same headwind that greeted us at the start of day 2. We made it to our Newry shop before heading over the hills towards our Downpatrick shop then north again to Bangor then back to Belfast. It was a long haul but as it was the final day spirits remained high.

The finish line was our curtain and bedding shop at Forestside Drumkeen retail park, we were greeted by family, friends and Cash for Kids mascot Courage the Cat.

The team included Gareth Corry, Garth Young, Will Miscampbell, William Gilbert and Simon Mann. Day 2 saw a guest appearance from Joe Barr who showed us how long distance cycling should be done. Alan Hill followed the team in a support vehicle carrying much needed food and energy drinks.

It was a very tough challenge and each of the team had their low points during the challenge but we made it round and had a good time doing it. So far we have raised £1,400 for the cycle and there is still time to give at

All the money raised went straight to Cash for Kids - Mission Christmas

Some interesting figures:

Over the course of 3 days we:

Burned approximately 12,000 calories per team member

Covered 300 miles

Climbed and descended 13,000 feet

Averaged a speed of 14mph

Realised that cycling was hard after 200 miles
